July is Self-Care Month and WestCMR is all about taking care of its team member’s health, both physically and mentally! However, the truth is that while it can be put on the back burner, self-care contributes to our long-term success and productivity. While the modern day workplace can be a high-stress environment, it’s crucial to take time to breathe and clear your mind.
What is self-care?
As stated on Everyday Health’s blog, “Let’s clear up one common misconception from the get-go: Self-care is not synonymous with self-indulgence or being selfish. Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy, you can be well, you can do your job, you can help and care for others, and you can do all the things you need to and want to accomplish in a day.“ Self-care can be taking a walk, reading a book, letting yourself cry, working out, focusing on your future goals, staying home and watching TV, etc. While it doesn’t always have to be pretty, self-care is a must if you want to protect your mind and have a balance with work and life.
How does WestCMR prioritize self-care in the work place?
WestCMR has the employee’s best interest always in the front of their mind! As far as making sure everyone is taking care of themselves, we give everyone 15 minute walk breaks and hour lunches. This gives our team time to relax and check in with themselves. Not just do we provide down time, but we also have a fitness center in our office. This provides our team a physical outlet to let go of some stress and focus on their goals. This gym is accessible before or after work, or even on their lunch if they’d like. At WestCMR, we truly care about our team and want them to equally care about themselves.
Embracing self-care in the workplace is not only a personal journey, but a necessity when it comes to succeeding in your field. Self-care isn’t a luxury or a selfish act; it can truly impact your life in a positive way. As I wrap up this blog, let’s take this month to reaffirm the importance of self-care and take a well-deserved break when needed.
Setting boundaries doesn’t make you a below average worker; it makes you a responsible and empowered professional. Join the WestCMR team as we celebrate self-care in July and practice it every day of the year!
