On March 29th, the nation will celebrate National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day; quite a mouthful of words to say but observing this day means so much to so many. I am certain you’re thinking to yourself, “there is an observance for everything now-a-days” and you may be correct but take a minute to stop and look around. What small businesses do you support in your community and in turn, what small business support you and the community you live in?
According to the US Small Business Administration, there are over 27 million small businesses in the United States. Most small business owners could tell you that there has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears that have gone into building their business. Watching my parents over the years, as small business owners, has opened my eyes to the long days, sleepless nights and dedication it takes to keep your dreams alive and food on the table. My parents will tell you that they wouldn’t want it any other way.
Small businesses enhance our communities. They provide employment opportunities and services, and support and to me, give a sense of pride to the communities we live in. WestCMR was founded by an individual determined to own his own business and I’m so thankful that he followed his passion to be a business owner. His dedication has provided employment to near 50 people in my community. So, on March 29th, I encourage you to have dinner at one of those “Mom & Pop” restaurants, have coffee from the café on the corner, or pick up flowers for your loved ones from the “local” flower shop. Let us show recognition to all small businesses.
